Israel has successfully test-fired its Arrow-3 anti-ballistic missile amid growing missile threat from Iran. Israel destroyed the enemy missile outside the Earth’s atmosphere. During this, Israel tested many important capabilities which can be used by the Israeli Air Force immediately. Earlier in December, Iran had given a big warning to Israel by firing 16 missiles simultaneously.
Israel’s “Arrow Weapon System” is part of a missile defense chain it has developed in recent years to defend itself in any future confrontation with Iran, Lebanon’s Hezbollah or the Palestinian group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Describing the mission as a success, Israel’s Defense Ministry said the air defense system detected the target and fired two Arrow-3 interceptor missiles at it.
‘Israel is well equipped to defend itself against any threat’
“By upgrading the system, we equip Israel with the capabilities to defend itself against any threat that may arise,” Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said in a statement. The system has been developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, a public sector undertaking in the defense sector, in collaboration with the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA). “The test was designed to challenge every element of the Arrow Weapon System and it performed well,” said Vice Admiral John Hill, MDA’s director.
Israel’s short-range missile defense was clearly on display during the 11-day Gaza War last year, when the Palestinian group Hamas fired more than 4,000 rockets at Israel. Israel’s military said it intercepted about 90 percent of the rockets targeted, while the others mostly landed in open areas. Earlier, Iran had given a direct warning to Israel by firing 16 missiles simultaneously.
Rain of Iranian missiles open warning to Israel
Iranian army generals have said that this rain of missiles is an open warning to Israel. The missiles that Iran tested are capable of hitting a range of 350 km to 2000 km. According to Iran’s official communication agency Irna, the missiles that have been tested include Imad, Ghadar, Sejil, Jaljal, Dejful and Zolfaghar etc. Irna said that these missiles hit a target. At the same time, 10 drone planes also targeted their targets.
