This new trade route will greatly reduce the transit time of goods between India and Russia. According to the report of the Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Russia and Iran plan to give a befitting reply to America’s plan to take the supply chain to its allies and friends through this new trade route. Iran has started working fast on the 3300 km long railway line in its country. An Iranian official recently told that the 560 km portion of this railway line will be ready by March this year.
The journey of goods from Irani Highway to India will be easy
After the completion of all these projects, the country’s railway network will increase by 20 percent. Similarly, work is also going on fast on 6000 km long highway. Out of this, a portion of 1000 km will be completed by March this year. Apart from this, in the year 2022, a 4-lane highway was opened which connects the Caspian Sea to the Persian Gulf. Iran hopes that it can become a transport hub between Asia, Russia and Europe. In the year 2002, India, Russia and Iran signed an agreement.
After this deal, the foundation of the International North-South Transport Corridor was laid. With this, India will be connected to Russia via Iran and Azerbaijan and will not need the Suez Canal. Iran and Russia are spending billions of dollars to build this trade route. This route has already started being used a lot. Ships from Russia and Iran are being seen in the Caspian Sea. Amidst the Ukraine war, both Russia and Iran are under a lot of pressure from the western countries. It is being told that both the countries are investing $25 billion in making this entire route.
Russia will easily reach the Indian Ocean
After the construction of this route, Russia’s journey to the Indian Ocean will become easier and it will also be able to trade faster with the Gulf and African countries. This is the reason why Putin himself is focusing on this path. Earlier in July, Russian President Vladimir Putin met his Iranian counterpart. Both the leaders agreed to complete the Rasht-Astara rail link in northern Iran.
