India’s position in the Global Hunger Index 2021 is disappointing. India is number 101 in this list of 116 countries, India has also been included in 31 countries where the situation of starvation is very serious. Talking about the last year, India was ranked 94 out of 107 countries in the Global Hunger Index.
This time only 15 countries are behind India in the Global Hunger Index. Their names are Papua New Guinea(102), Afghanistan(103), Nigeria(103), Congo(105), Mozambique(106), Sierra Leone(106), Haiti(109), Liberia(110), Madagascar(111), Democratic Republic of Congo (112), Chad (113), Central African Republic (114), Yemen (115) and Somalia (116) are the only countries that are behind India in this list.
India’s position this time is even lower than its neighboring countries, which is quite disappointing. In this list, Pakistan’s 92nd, Nepal’s 76th and Bangladesh also 76th place. The condition of these countries is also disappointing but they are ahead in the matter of providing food to the citizens from India. This situation is worrying for us.
Brazil, Kuwait and China are at the top of the global index with a GHI of less than five. The higher the GHI, the higher the level of hunger in that country. Twenty years ago, India’s GHI score was 38.8, which is 28.8-27.5 today, it is being said that India’s situation has gone down due to the lockdown in the country. Corona has greatly increased hunger in India.

The Global Hunger Index has been created by the Weld Hunger Hilfe of Germany and the Concern Worldwide Agency of Ireland. In this list, the GHI is determined on four levels and parameters, undernutrition, children wasting (children under five who are underweight for their height), child stunting (five-year-olds whose height is based on their age). ) and child mortality (mortality rate of children under five years of age).
The record of the last six years in India’s Global Hunger Index is not very good, due to Corona last year, this situation has become even more disappointing. On which the government will have to think otherwise it can get worse.
