great friendship between the two countries
The prime minister made the offer when Ram Madhav of the India Foundation met Hasina at her official residence Gana Bhavan on Sunday. Prime Minister Hasina said that this step will enhance regional connectivity and people-to-people contact. Reportedly, in conversation with Madhav, Hasina also sent her greeting message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Madhav appreciated the socio-economic growth of Bangladesh under Hasina’s leadership. “Being neighboring countries, Bangladesh and India enjoy great friendship and hope that this relationship will continue in the future as well,” he was quoted as saying in the report. Hasina’s deputy press secretary KM Shakhawat Moon also briefed the media about this.
Pipeline started between the two
Before offering two important ports, Indian PM Narendra Modi along with Sheikh Hasina inaugurated a pipeline in Siliguri, North Bengal on 18 March. The pipeline, located at Parbatipur in Dinajpur province of Bangladesh, is 131.5 km long. It has been named as the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline (IBFPL). Even at the time of the pipeline’s inauguration, Hasina had termed India as a “true friend” of Bangladesh. She said that she wants to take this friendship forward.
China will be shocked
It is being said that this pipeline will reduce Bangladesh’s dependence on China. The foundation stone of this pipeline was laid in September 2018. Bangladesh Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmood told Swarajya from Dhaka that the new pipeline is another milestone in India-Bangladesh relations.
