Russia is presiding over the Security Council this month. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was presiding over the debate on Monday when Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram mentioned Jammu and Kashmir in his statement. To this Kamboj said, ‘Finally, this respected forum today heard some rediculous remarks by a Permanent Representative made purely out of ignorance and lack of understanding on the basic facts of decolonisation.’
Kashmir’s melody in every meeting
“I will not waste the time of this Council by replying to those comments…” she said. “Pakistan consistently raises the issue of Kashmir at various UN fora, irrespective of the agenda and topics of discussion in the meetings.” Tension between India and Pakistan has increased since the Government of India withdrew the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, by abrogating most of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution. Reacting strongly to India’s decision, Pakistan limited diplomatic relations with it and expelled the Indian envoy.
