New York:India’s Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, spoke fiercely to Pakistan in the Security Council meeting. When the issue of Jammu and Kashmir was raised from Pakistan side in the middle of the debate, she said that she does not respond to such “useless” comments. She said that answering such things would mean wasting the time of the Security Council and she would not do so. Kamboj was speaking at the UN Security Council on the topic ‘Maintaining international peace and security: effective multilateralism while upholding the principles of the Charter of the United Nations’. Meanwhile, he gave a befitting reply to Pakistan’s comments.

Russia is presiding over the Security Council this month. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was presiding over the debate on Monday when Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram mentioned Jammu and Kashmir in his statement. To this Kamboj said, ‘Finally, this respected forum today heard some rediculous remarks by a Permanent Representative made purely out of ignorance and lack of understanding on the basic facts of decolonisation.’

“I will not waste the time of this Council by replying to those comments…” she said. “Pakistan consistently raises the issue of Kashmir at various UN fora, irrespective of the agenda and topics of discussion in the meetings.” Tension between India and Pakistan has increased since the Government of India withdrew the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, by abrogating most of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution. Reacting strongly to India’s decision, Pakistan limited diplomatic relations with it and expelled the Indian envoy.

India has clearly told the international community that the abrogation of Article 370 is its internal matter. He also advised Pakistan to accept the reality and stop all anti-India propaganda. India conveyed to Pakistan that it wished to have normal neighborly relations with it in an environment free from terrorism, hostility and violence.
