Since January, India has refrained from taking part in voting on various resolutions in the United Nations Security Council, the United Nations General Assembly and the United Nations Human Rights Council condemning the Russian campaign in Ukraine. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Indra Mani Pandey, told the session that India’s position on the Ukraine conflict has been clear and stable.
India said – we are worried, violence should end immediately
According to Pandey, we are deeply concerned about the developments unfolding in Ukraine. We have called on both countries to immediately end the violence and enmity. He said that India believes that following the path of dialogue and diplomacy is the only way to solve the problem. The Council has also requested the Commission of Inquiry to conduct an inquiry into the incidents in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Sumy at the end of February in accordance with its rules and regulations and international standards.
Demand to end military operation in Ukraine
In an orally introduced resolution, the Human Rights Council called for an immediate end to military hostilities against Ukraine, the prevention of any human rights violations and repression in the country, and any national, racial or religious hatred, in addition to any state-sponsored war and propaganda. The demand to stay away from advocacy has been reiterated.
