Islamabad : Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI) chief Imran Khan has indicated that he may return to the National Assembly. Monday signaled a return to the National Assembly for the first time to be part of the consultation process for a caretaker government for general elections later this year. In April last year, 131 PTI members of the National Assembly resigned after Imran was removed from the post of prime minister through a no-confidence motion. Imran’s party boycotted the resolution and did not participate in the voting on it.
However, the Speaker of the National Assembly has not yet accepted Imran Khan’s resignation and has called all PTI MPs to verify whether his resignation is ‘genuine and voluntary’. Speaking to reporters at his residence in Lahore on Monday, Imran said, “If we do not return to the National Assembly, the PML-N-led coalition government will form a caretaker government in consultation with opposition leader Raja Riaz, chosen by him.” After the completion of his term in August this year).
