No one knows when the elections will be held in Pakistan’s Punjab. The date was fixed by the Supreme Court till May 14, which has now passed. Today i.e. on Monday, the Supreme Court will hear the petition of the Election Commission, in which a demand has been made to reconsider its order of April 4.

The Supreme Court, in its order on April 4, termed as unconstitutional the order of the Election Commission in which it was ordered to hold elections in Punjab on October 8 instead of April 30. The Supreme Court, while giving its verdict, ordered the Election Commission to hold elections in Punjab province by May 14.

This decision of the Supreme Court has created a new problem for the Shahbaz government. The Election Commission again reached the Supreme Court and filed a 14-page petition saying that the apex court should review its decision as the court does not have the authority to give the date of the election.

Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said that the caretaker government in Punjab has no legal or constitutional status. PTI also opposed the Election Commission’s petition and its order to hold elections in October. PTI has said that not holding elections on May 14 despite the order of the Supreme Court is an attempt to brutally murder the Constitution.

Gave instructions to give 21 billion rupees

In its decision, the Supreme Court ordered the State Bank of Pakistan to allocate 21 billion rupees to the Election Commission, while directing the State Bank of Pakistan to conduct elections by May 14. On April 18, the Election Commission again reached the Supreme Court and said that it has not yet received Rs 21 billion from the bank.
