Makki released a video after the United Nations Security Council’s 1267 ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee listed the name as a global terrorist on Monday. Actions like confiscation of assets, travel ban and arms embargo can be taken against Makki after the UNSC move. Most Wanted Makki in India is an accused in 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. His name also figures in the attack on the Red Fort in the year 2000.
‘I never met bin Laden or Zawahiri’
Releasing the video from jail, Makki said, ‘I believe that the decision to include my name in the terrorist list is based on the wrong information of the Government of India. I have never met Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri or Abdullah Azzam, as alleged in some reports. Makki claimed that the actions of al-Qaeda and ISIS were diametrically opposite to his ideology. He said, ‘I condemn all forms of terrorism and violence carried out by such groups.’
Makki is the brother-in-law of Hafiz Saeed
Abdul Rahman Makki ‘expressed regret’ over the action of the Security Council and said that he was not given any opportunity to be heard. He also denied claims that he was faculty at the Islamic University in Islamabad in the 1980s, where intelligence agencies accuse him of meeting with al-Qaeda or Afghan commanders. The brother-in-law of terrorist Hafiz Saeed is the head of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, the political wing of Makki Lashkar. He was behind many terrorist attacks in Kashmir.
