This new species has been described in research published in Communication Biology. The name of this species is being told as Natoventor polydontus. These theropod dinosaurs were three-toed and were found in Mongolia about 145 million to 66 million years ago. South Korea’s Seoul National University, University of Alberta and Mongolian Academy of Sciences together have discovered this new species of dinosaur.
‘Natoventor was probably a swimming creature’
Researchers have found that this natoventor dinosaur had arranged ribs, like those of a duck diving under water. The authors of the research said, ‘Its body shape suggests that Natoventor was probably a swimming creature.’ He said that such a body of this dinosaur had evolved. He said that Natoventor was very similar to Halszraptor. Halsjraptor was also a species of dinosaur which was discovered in Mangalia only.
They said that the genus Natoventor was complete in itself, unlike Halszraptor. This made it easier for scientists to study its body shape. The researchers said that both Halsjaraptor and Natoventur used their forearms to propel themselves through the water. Scientists said that by looking at the wrist of this creature, it is estimated that they could swim very easily in water. The bones inside this creature are very dense, which is very important for the creatures that dive inside the water. Dinosaurs have been considered to be land-dwelling creatures till now.
