Nancy gave a message of solidarity
Arriving in Taiwan, Nancy said, “America’s solidarity with Taiwan’s 23 million people is more important than ever, as the world faces a choice between autocracy and democracy.” “Our visit is one of several congressional delegations to Taiwan and does not in any way contradict America’s policy,” he added. America will continue to oppose unilateral attempts to change the status quo.
China’s threat remained ineffective
US Congressional Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed in Taiwan’s capital Taipei on Tuesday at 8.15 pm Indian time. On behalf of the US Defense Ministry, he was transported to Taiwan through Air Force aircraft C-40C SPAR19 amidst tight security. Before his arrival in Taiwan, China had made several threats that it would not allow Pelosi’s plane to land.
Amidst Nancy’s visit, China’s military People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has announced that it will conduct important military exercises and training, including live-fire exercises, in six areas around Taiwan from Thursday to Sunday. China has made this announcement at a time when Pelosi is present in Taipei.
According to China’s state media Global Times, the country’s Defense Ministry said that the PLA Eastern Theater Command will conduct a joint military operation around Taiwan. With joint maritime and aerial exercises in the north, southwest, southeast of the island, long-range artillery shooting in the Taiwan Strait and missile test firing in the eastern sea areas of the island starting Tuesday night.
