There has been a fierce conflict between the Taliban and Iran near Nimroz province. The Taliban administration claims that at least nine people have died in this bloody conflict. The fighting started in the day on Wednesday and continued till evening.
Local Taliban officials and eyewitnesses have claimed that the Taliban have captured three check posts. Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid issued a statement saying that the clashes had taken place after a misunderstanding at the local level. Zabiulla said that after mutual talks between the two sides, the situation is now under control. According to the Arab News report, the governor of Nimroz province has told that the misunderstanding which was caused by fuel smuggling has been cleared.
The governor of Nimroj said, ‘The main reason for this misunderstanding is fuel smuggling in Afghanistan. During this fighting at least 9 Iranian soldiers have died and many have been injured. He said one Taliban fighter was injured. Iranian officials have not confirmed the Taliban’s claim of killing nine Iranian soldiers. The Taliban commander in Nimroz, Kiam Mawlawi, said the conflict started from the Iranian side.
Mawlawi said that there is peace at the moment but we are fully alert. Iranian media said the fighting began after a dispute between local residents. He rejected the claim of possession of Iranian posts. At the same time, local people say that Taliban soldiers crossed the border and entered Iran. They captured three outposts Burjak, Melak and Shah Balak. There has been fierce exchange of fire between both the sides.
