Army Chief General MM Naravane remained in Colombo on Tuesday on a four-day visit with an aim to strengthen India-Sri Lanka military ties. During this, Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane exchanged views on several bilateral defense partnerships to strengthen military ties. MM Naravane visited the Sri Lanka Navy Headquarters and interacted with Vice Admiral Nishant Ulugaton Commander, Sri Lanka Navy and other senior officers of the Sri Lanka Navy. During this, views were exchanged on the bilateral defense partnership between the two countries.
This was the first visit of Army Chief Naravane to Sri Lanka. Recently, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla also visited Sri Lanka and had detailed discussions on cooperation in various fields between the two countries. Manoj Mukund Naravane met with Sri Lanka’s political and military leadership on Wednesday, the day after his arrival in Sri Lanka on Tuesday. During this, detailed talks were held to increase the military cooperation of the two countries. Met Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to discuss bilateral issues and strategic cooperation. President Rajapaksa is the Commander-in-Chief of the Sri Lankan forces. General Naravane also met Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. The Indian Army Chief told the Sri Lankan Prime Minister about the special relationship between the armies of the two countries. Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed happiness over the support and training being provided by the Indian security forces to the Sri Lankan forces and called it beneficial.
Naravane pays tribute to the immortal martyrs
General Naravane also met Sri Lanka’s Foreign Secretary Admiral Jayanath Colombage and held talks with him on bilateral cooperation. General Naravane discussed bilateral cooperation with Sri Lanka’s Defense Secretary General GDH Kamal Gunaratne. Simultaneously, General Naravane went to the headquarters of the Sri Lankan Army, where he was given a guard of honour. Bilateral cooperation between General Naravane and General Shavendra Silva was discussed at the Army Headquarters and it was decided to enhance it. The Army Chief also met other top officials of the Sri Lankan Army. General Naravane also visited the memorial built in memory of the martyrs of the Indian Peace Keeping Force. There he paid homage to the immortal martyrs. The soldiers of the Indian Army had sacrificed their lives between 1987 and 1990 to uphold the integrity of Sri Lanka. During this, Veena Naravane, wife of General Naravane, Mihindu Seth went to Medura. There live Sri Lankan army personnel who were permanently rendered physically helpless during the conflict. Veena Naravane met him and got to know about his well being.
Observation of ‘Mitra Shakti 21’ military exercise

Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane observed the joint military exercise of India and Sri Lanka. This military exercise is being done for cooperation between the two countries in crushing terrorism. He praised the armed forces of both the countries, saying that both have been thoroughly professional and have high standards of training. India and Sri Lanka began a 12-day mega military exercise last week. This exercise is going on at the Military Warfare Training School in Anpara, Sri Lanka as part of counter-terrorism cooperation.
