‘US wants to deploy nuclear weapons in space’
Russia’s deputy representative to the United Nations Andrei Belousov has said that the US may use the security crisis in Ukraine as an excuse to deploy weapons, including nuclear weapons, into space. Regarding the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, he said that it is impossible to directly link the risks of deploying weapons in space to Russian special military operations in the territory of Ukraine. There is no such direct link. However, the fact remains that the US and its allies will use Ukrainian cards to implement their military plans not only on land, at sea and in the air, but also in space.
Russia’s allegation – Ukraine can make an excuse for war, America
He said that it cannot be denied that special military operation will be used as an excuse for the implementation of these plans. Belousov suggested that Washington’s refusal to legally discuss legally binding means to stop the arms race in outer space over the past decade and a half is itself exposing it. He insisted that the US had planned not to take any liability from the beginning. He claimed that we can well assume that these plans include the possibility of deploying nuclear weapons in space.
Russia praises itself for nuclear disarmament
Belousov on Friday hit out at the US at the NPT review conference on the eve of the 77th anniversary of the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima. He reiterated Russia’s commitment to rid the world of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons. He pointed out that Russia has reduced its strategic nuclear arsenal by 85 percent since the mid-1980s. Belousov said that the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (or New START) was extended by five years in February 2021 at the initiative of Moscow.
