According to the website, Yeti Airlines is the parent company of Tara Air. Yeti Airlines has had four fatal plane crashes since 2004, including today’s ATR 72 flight. In addition to the three fatal plane crashes in Tara Air, five ‘non-fatal’ incidents are also included. Both the airlines fly in the mountainous and extremely risky Himalayan region. Nepal is considered one of the world’s ‘most dangerous air travel’ countries. In the last 10 years, there have been about 20 plane crashes in Nepal.
Mostly Tara and Yeti’s plane crash
Sunday’s accident was the 11th major accident in terms of fatalities. Be it Tara Air or Yeti Airlines, it is important to know why traveling by air in Nepal is so risky. Looking at the plane accidents of the last 10 years in Nepal, most of the crashed planes are found in Tara Air and one Yeti Airlines. Different reasons for the crash are given in different accidents. Sometimes bad weather, sometimes low visibility and above all the mountainous terrain make air travel in Nepal risky. The biggest role in this is played by bad weather.
Why is air travel dangerous in Nepal?
Eight of the 14 highest mountains, including Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, are located in Nepal. The world’s most dangerous airport is also in Nepal. There is a solid reason behind calling the airport located in the city of Lukla the most dangerous. It is not at all easy to land a plane on a runway made by cutting the rock between the mountains. There is a mountain on one side of the runway and a ditch on the other, so a slight mistake can lead to a major accident. Only well-trained and experienced pilots are allowed to land on the runway at Lukla. That’s why flying a plane in Nepal is not easy at all.
crashed due to technical reasons
After Sunday’s accident, an official of the Civil Aviation Administration of Nepal said that the weather was not behind it. According to preliminary information, the plane crash happened due to technical reasons. The official said it was learned that flames were seen in the plane only when it was in the air. The plane crashed just 10 seconds before landing at Pokhara airport. The exact cause of the crash has not been revealed at the moment.
