Caspian seal weighs up to 100 kg
The ministry said there was no indication that he died of violent causes. No fishing net has been found either. The agency said investigators are patrolling the entire coastal area for information on more seals. At the same time, experts from the Caspian Environment Center are examining the samples of these seals to find out the cause of death. Earlier this year, 140 Caspian seals were found dead on the shores of Kazakhstan.
According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the population of seals in the Caspian Sea has declined drastically due to over-hunting, ocean pollution and climate change. At the same time, the Ministry of Dagestan said that the number of Caspian seals in this area still remains stable, which is between 2,70,000 and 3,00,000. Seals usually eat fish and can grow up to 5.2 feet in length. Their weight can be up to 100 kg. They do not even have any natural enemy in the sea.
