For which countries the service is applicable
The UPI service is currently implemented in 10 countries. This includes countries like Canada, Hong Kong, Oman, US, Australia, Singapore, UAE, UK and Saudi Arabia and Qatar. For NRIs living in these countries, UPI service will not require any Indian mobile number. Apart from these 10 countries, UPI service will start soon for many other countries. The government has given time till April 10, 2023, to start this service from the banks.
What will need to be done
According to the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), to send money to India through UPI, NRIs will have to type Non Resident External (NRE) and Non Resident Ordinary (NRO) in the bank account type. After this, overseas Indians will be able to send money to India from the international mobile number. Explain that the NRO account is used to send the overseas Indian citizens earning abroad to India.
what would be the advantage
This will benefit those students who go abroad for studies, family or business. Also, sending money to India will be easy for the working class working abroad.
Government fixed guideline
The government has ordered the money sent from abroad to follow the guidelines of FEMA i.e. Regulation. So that foreign money cannot be used against terrorism.
