Warning for Zoom users
India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information i.e. MeitY has started warning all Zoom users in India about these shortcomings. According to the ministry, by taking advantage of the shortcomings of the Zoom app, hackers can join any meeting secretly and no other meeting participant will even know about it. If it happens that during the Zoom meeting, hackers can easily get to know a lot of secret information of the users, which they can take some wrong advantage later.
However, last week Zoom itself warned its users about this danger and now India’s cyber security agency CERT-In has also advised Indian users to download the updated version of this app as soon as possible.
Both Zoom and CERT-In have found three security bugs in this video meeting platform, namely CVE-2022-28758, CVE-2022-28759 and CVE-2022-28760. The actual cause of these bugs is falling on the server process of the Zoom On-Premise Meeting Connector feature, which can directly harm the users.
Update app as soon as possible
For this reason, the Government of India has advised users to update the desktop version of the Zoom app as soon as possible. There is no such problem in the mobile version but it would be better to update it too. According to the cyber security agency, keeping in mind the online safety, it would be better for users to download the latest updates in every version including mobile, desktop. Let us tell you how you can install Zoom update in different devices.
To update on PC and Mac, Zoom users will have to click on their profile picture after opening Zoom in their Windows or MacBook. After that, you have to click on the option of Check for Updates appearing there and then Zoom will automatically download and install the latest version on your desktop. Whereas mobile users can check and install the latest updates from Google Play Store for Android devices and Apple App Store for iOS devices.
