Charanjit Singh Channi is the Congress MLA from Chamkaur Sahib seat. He comes from the Dalit community. The special thing is that Charanjit Singh Channi used to be special to Captain Amarinder Singh but then became his staunch opponent. In 2017, Charanjit Singh Channi was made the Minister of Higher Education, when he himself was a 12th pass. There was a lot of controversy about this. After which he had enrolled for graduation in Punjab University in 2017.

Charanjit Singh’s political journey began with his election as the President of Kharar Municipal Council in 2002, contested for the first time as an independent in 2007 and won from Chamkaur Sahib Assembly Constituency. After this he joined the Congress in 2012 and again elected MLA from the same seat. Channi had landed in controversy when she was accused of sending inappropriate messages to her by an IAS officer while she was a minister. This is the case of 2018. Apart from this, he came into controversy when in the same year, 2018 he was caught on camera tossing a coin to decide between two candidates for the post of lecturer in a polytechnic institute. Apart from this, Channi had also once constructed a road outside his official residence, so that his house could be entered from the east. Later it was demolished by the Chandigarh Administration.
