New Delhi: Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has been in discussion for the past few days regarding the political upheaval. In the latest developments, he will leave for Delhi today. During this, he can meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda. Sources have given this information.
Significantly, after a long tussle in the Punjab Congress, Amarinder Singh resigned along with the entire cabinet on 18 September. After resigning from the post of Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh had said that he was feeling humiliated, after which he decided to step down.
In fact, after what has happened in the politics of Punjab in the last one week, all eyes are on Captain Amarinder Singh. The captain has also spoken of alternatives in future politics. In such a situation, the question remains whether the Captain will leave the hands of the Congress? If Captain leaves Congress, what will be his next step? Before the assembly elections are to be held in Punjab in the next year 2022, the Congress removed Amarinder Singh and gave Punjab the first Dalit Chief Minister, but now all eyes are on the next step of the Captain.
Captain Amarinder Singh has been attacking the Congress since his resignation. However, it is not yet clear whether he will stay with the Congress or join another party in the coming days. Speculations are rife that Capt Amarinder Singh may either join BJP or announce formation of his own party before next year’s Punjab Assembly elections. May be involved, as he has a better relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But being a seasonal politician, whatever decision Captain Amarinder Singh takes, he will take it after careful consideration. The eyes of the Congress high command are fixed on his decision that he does not want to upset him in any way.
In fact, for the first time, the BJP is going to contest the assembly elections on its own in Punjab by separating from the Akali Dal. The BJP does not currently have any strong face in the state as a contender for the chief minister’s post. Political experts also believe that the BJP can benefit from the association with a big leader like Captain in the state as it did in Assam.
