The results of by-elections for 7 assembly seats in 6 states have started coming. Voting on these seats took place on 5 September. These include Ghosi in Uttar Pradesh, Bageshwar in Uttarakhand, Dhupguri in Bengal, Dumri in Jharkhand, Puthuppali in Kerala and Dhanpur and Boxanagar seats in Tripura.
According to the website of the Election Commission, the BJP has won the Dhanpur and Boxanagar seats in Tripura. Apart from this, BJP is leading in one seat each in Jharkhand, Bengal and Uttarakhand. Samajwadi Party is leading in Ghosi seat of Uttar Pradesh, Congress is leading in Kerala. Out of these 7 assembly seats, INDIA alliance is contesting together on 5 seats – Ghosi (UP), Bageshwar (Uttarakhand), Dumri (Jharkhand), Boxanagar and Dhanpur (Tripura). The parties of INDIA alliance are in the fray against each other in Dhupguri seat of Bengal and Puthupalli seat of Kerala.

Ghosi seat of UP
Here there is a direct contest between INDIA alliance and BJP. Sudhakar Singh of Samajwadi Party (SP) is in the fray from INDIA alliance. Dara Singh Chauhan is contesting the elections from BJP. Chauhan has come to BJP from SP. At present, SP’s Sudhakar is leading from BJP’s Dara Singh by more than 7 thousand votes. Dumri seat of Jharkhand: Baby Devi of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) from INDIA alliance and AJSU candidate Yashoda Devi from NDA are in the fray on Dumri seat. At present AJSU candidate Yashoda Devi is leading by 2469 votes.
Bageshwar seat of Uttarakhand: BJP’s Parvati Das is leading from Congress’s Basant Kumar by about 2000 votes from Bageshwar seat of Uttarakhand. After the death of MLA Chandan Ram Das, BJP has made his wife Parvati Das its candidate on this seat. Boxanagar and Dhanpur seats of Tripura: BJP candidate Bindu Debnath has defeated CPI (M) candidate Kaushik Chanda by 18871 votes from Dhanpur seat of Tripura. Tafazzal Hussain of BJP has won from Boxnagar seat by defeating Mizan Hussain of CPI(M) by a margin of 30237 votes.
Puthuppally seat of Kerala: From here, Chandy Auman of Congress is leading over Jack C Thomas of CPI (M) by more than 11 thousand votes. The Puthupalli seat fell vacant after the death of Congress leader and former chief minister Oommen Chandy. Here the Congress has fielded Oommen Chandy’s son. BJP has made senior leader Lijin Lal its candidate. Dhupguri seat of West Bengal: The most shocking trends are emerging from this seat. Here BJP candidate Taapsee Roy is leading by about 1000 votes. INDIA Alliance members Congress and Trinamool Congress are contesting against each other in Dhupguri seat. Nirmal Chandra Roy is the candidate from TMS. Congress has supported CPI(M) candidate Ishwar Chandra Roy.
