Razia Sultana on Tuesday stepped down as a cabinet minister in the state government, hours after Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from the post of Punjab Congress president.
In her resignation letter to Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Sultana said she was resigning “showing solidarity with Navjot Singh Sidhu”. Please tell that Razia Sultana got the Ministry of Water Supply and Sanitation and Women and Child Development. Razia Sultana is the wife of Mohammad Mustafa, advisor to Navjot Singh Sidhu. Rajia Sultana said that she would continue to work as a party worker. Apart from this Yogendra Dhingra resigned as the General Secretary of Congress showing solidarity with Navjot Singh Sidhu. Dhingra is the third Congress leader to step down after Sidhu’s resignation after minister Razia Sultana and state party treasurer Gulzar Inder Chahal.
It is worth noting that Navjot Singh Sidhu today resigned from the post of Congress’ Punjab unit president, triggering a fresh crisis in the party a few months ahead of the assembly elections in the state. Sidhu stepped down soon after.
In a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Sidhu said that he would continue to serve the party.
