Parliament Special Session 2023: A special session of Parliament (Parliament Special Session 2023) is being organized in the country from September 18. Before this five-day session, Congress has once again demanded more reservation for women. Congress General Secretary Jaimram Ramesh expressed his views through a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter). He said that in this five-day session, the Women’s Reservation Bill, which has already been passed by the Rajya Sabha, should be passed.
Jai Ram Ramesh demanded
Jaimram Ramesh wrote in his post, ‘The Congress Working Committee has demanded that the Women’s Reservation Bill should be passed during the special session of Parliament.’ He said, “First of all, Rajiv Gandhi introduced the Constitution Amendment Bill in the month of May 1989 for one-third reservation of women in Panchayats and Municipalities. That bill was passed in the Lok Sabha but could not be passed in the Rajya Sabha in September 1989.”
There are more than 15 lakh elected women representatives
She further said, “In April 1993, the then Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao re-introduced the Constitution Amendment Bill to provide for one-third reservation for women in panchayats and municipalities. Both the bills were passed and became law.”
The Congress leader said, “Today there are more than 15 lakh elected women representatives in panchayats and municipalities. It is around 40%. The then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh brought the Constitution Amendment Bill for one-third reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies. The bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha on 9 March 2010. But it could not be taken to the Lok Sabha.”
Congress party has been demanding for the last nine years- Ramesh
Jaimram Ramesh further said, “Bills introduced/passed in the Rajya Sabha do not lapse. Therefore the Women’s Reservation Bill is still alive. “The Congress party has been demanding for the last nine years that the Women’s Reservation Bill, which has already been passed by the Rajya Sabha, should also be passed by the Lok Sabha.”
Pawan Kheda demanded
At the same time, Congress media department in-charge Pawan Kheda told journalists that Congress has been demanding for a long time that the Women’s Reservation Bill should be passed. He requested the government to pass this bill.
