The issue of Savarkar is gaining momentum in the political circles. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, while releasing a book on Veer Savarkar, declared him the biggest nationalist of the country. Now Asaduddin Owaisi has made several tweets reversing Rajnath Singh’s statement. Rajnath Singh had said in one of his statements that Hindutva icon Veer Savarkar had filed a mercy petition before the British while imprisoned in Andaman Jail on the suggestion of Mahatma Gandhi, but his contribution to the freedom struggle was defamed by some ideology adherents. and it will no longer be tolerated.
Veer Savarkar had rejected the tricolor-Owaisi
Taking a jibe at this statement, Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted, “Sir @RajnathSingh..you said that Savarkar’s mercy petition was on Gandhi’s advice. Here is Gandhi’s letter to Savarkar. There is no mention of the plea of the British begging for leniency, mercy and promises to be faithful servants of the Taj. Owaisi has also included a letter with the tweet. Owaisi wrote that Savarkar had filed the first petition before the British in 1911, when Gandhi was in Africa… Savarkar again filed the petition in 1913-14. Raising it, he asked is it a lie that this “Veer” rejected the tricolor and wanted to make saffron as his flag.

Owaisi asked questions to Rajnath
Owaisi tweeted that you mentioned in your speech yesterday that Savarkar had defined Hindu as someone for whom India was the birthplace or motherland. However, Savarkar, as a man of limited intellectual prowess, actually defined Hindu as one for whom India was the fatherland and holy land.. In his view, India was not a holy land for Muslims and Christians and So they could not be completely loyal to India. What is your view on this as Defense Minister? Do you subscribe to this principle? Talking to the media, Owaisi said that the BJP is presenting a distorted history. If this continues, they will remove Mahatma Gandhi and make Savarkar, who was accused of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination and declared a participant in Justice Jeevan Lal Kapoor’s investigation, as the Father of the Nation.
