In the next year’s assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Congress will give 40% of the tickets to women. Party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi made this big announcement in a press conference in Lucknow on Tuesday. Priyanka said that this decision will do justice to all the aggrieved women. Priyanka gave a new slogan, ‘I can fight a girl’.
In order to give tickets to 40% women, Congress will field women candidates in 161 of the total 403 assembly seats in UP. When Priyanka was making this announcement, 7 men were present on her stage and only two women were sitting next to her. From this it can be guessed that the party’s decision to give tickets to women is going to be very challenging.
Priyanka does not mind familyism
The Congress may have announced to give 40% tickets to women, but it is also likely to be dominated by the women of the leaders’ families. Priyanka Gandhi herself supported familyism during her press conference. When he was asked the question that Congress has announced to give tickets to 40% women, but all effective leaders will lobby to get tickets only for the women of their families. On this Priyanka said that there is no harm in this.
Priyanka postponed the question of contesting the election herself
Priyanka said that we have asked for applications and by November 15, people can apply for tickets. Tickets will be given to women on the basis of merit. Priyanka also said that if her bus had run, she would have given 50 percent of the tickets to women instead of 40. When he was asked about contesting the assembly elections, he said that he would think about it later. At the same time, on the question of going with the Congress CM face in UP, he said that it has not been decided yet.
Justice will be given to the victims of the verdict
Priyanka said, ‘When I came to Uttar Pradesh in the 2019 elections, some university girls met me in Prayagraj. He told that there are separate rules for boys and girls here. After that we have taken this decision. This verdict is for the girl of Unnao who was burnt to death. This verdict is for the girl from Hathras, who did not get justice.
Priyanka said, ‘I had found a girl in Lakhimpur. She said that she wants to become the Prime Minister. Our decision is for him. This is for the woman in Sonbhadra who raised her voice for the people. This decision is for every woman of UP who wants to progress, wants to make her future or wants to bring change.
Government targeted over Lakhimpur
Priyanka said that no one protects the common man in UP. Today the name of power is that you can openly crush people. Hate prevails today, women can change it. Priyanka said that when women policemen surrounded me in Sitapur, two women policemen took me to the PAC guest house in Sitapur. This decision is for them as well. The country has to come out of the politics of religion and take it forward and women will have to do this work on their own.
Priyanka had reached Lucknow from Delhi on Monday night. He had also hit out at the government over the killing of a lawyer inside the court premises in Shahjahanpur district on Monday. He had said – nowadays no one is safe in UP. Be it women, farmers or even lawyers.
