BJP has got a new ally in Karnataka. BJP is going to form an alliance with Janata Dal (Secular) here. Both the parties will jointly contest next year’s Lok Sabha elections in the state. However, nothing has been said in this regard by JD(S), but Karnataka BJP leader BS Yediyurappa has confirmed this. It is reported that an agreement has also been reached between the two parties regarding seat sharing.
What did Yediyurappa say on the alliance?
Yediyurappa said, “I am happy that Deve Gowda ji met our Prime Minister and he has already finalized about 4 seats. I welcome them. Home Minister Amit Shah has agreed to this.” It is clear from Yediyurappa’s statement that in the seat sharing, JD(S) has got 4 seats and BJP will field its candidates on the remaining seats. There are a total of 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka.
Deve Gowda met Nadda and Shah
Recently Deve Gowda met BJP national president JP Nadda and Shah. Since then, there were speculations that discussions were going on between the two parties regarding an alliance. Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai had said that alliance talks were going on between the national leaders of BJP and Deve Gowda. Further decisions will be taken on this basis.
Why did BJP-JDS come together?
Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP is busy uniting its old allies. Under this, the party has included Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) President Omprakash Rajbhar in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). In Bihar too, BJP has been successful in getting Jitan Ram Manjhi, Upendra Kushwaha, Mukesh Sahni and Chirag Paswan. JDS The alliance with BJP is being considered a part of this strategy.
JD(S) also has alliance with Congress
JD(S) has been playing the role of kingmaker in Karnataka and has earlier formed alliances with both BJP and Congress. In the 2004 elections, JD(S) got 58 seats and formed the government with Congress which won 65 seats. . However, HD Kumaraswamy joined BJP only after 2 years. In 2018, Congress and JD(S) contested the elections together and Kumaraswamy became the Chief Minister. Both of them had also contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections together.
Deve Gowda founded JD(S) in 1999. The party is considered to have a huge presence in the Vokkaliga community of Karnataka and South Karnataka is considered to be the party’s stronghold. The party has been performing well in the Old Mysore area. JDS is a party whose leader HD Kumaraswamy has become the Chief Minister of Karnataka twice, but the party has not fielded candidates on all the assembly seats in the state in any election till date.
