Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi met the families of those killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, Priyanka had left for Lakhimpur Kheri after being released from custody. Along with Rahul Gandhi, Chief Ministers of Chhattisgarh and Punjab Bhupesh Baghel and Charanjit Singh Channi were also present. All the leaders together met the victim’s family and supported them in their hour of grief. Rahul Gandhi assured the families of the victims that justice will prevail to them. Note that a lot has happened in the last 24 hours. Earlier, the Yogi government was not allowing anyone to visit Lakhimpur Kheri, but suddenly the government changed its decision.
Know what happened from the beginning
Yesterday, Rahul Gandhi had a press conference at 12 o’clock where he was very angry about the arrest of Priyanka Gandhi. After which he left for Lucknow. However, the Yogi government did not allow Rahul Gandhi to visit Lakhimpur Kheri. On the other hand, Priyanka was taken into custody in Sitapur on her way to Lakhimpur and later she was arrested. After which she was released last night. There was a lot of commotion after reaching Lucknow airport. Rahul Gandhi and others wanted to go to Lakhimpur in their own vehicles while the UP Police wanted to take them by their own car. Rahul Gandhi was adamant about this and started dharna at the airport itself. Later permission was given and then Rahul Gandhi reached Sitapur where Priyanka Gandhi was kept in custody several days ago.
