India Vs Bharat: India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has advised the opposition to read the Constitution amid the ongoing uproar over India being written as India. He said that ‘India, that is Bharat’ is mentioned in the Constitution. Those who are opposing it should first be taught the Constitution.
In an interview with news agency ANI, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said that India and India are one and the same, this is also mentioned in the Constitution. I would ask everyone to read it (the Constitution). Jaishankar further said that when you say India, there is a meaning, an understanding and an inference and I think this is reflected in our Constitution also.
‘…why big meetings were held only in Delhi’
During this, Jaishankar also answered the questions being raised by the opposition on the government’s arrangements for the G20 summit. He said there was a tendency in previous governments to believe that major meetings should be held only in Delhi. Taking aim at the Congress, he said whoever earlier believed that he felt comfortable holding meetings alone in Lutyens’ Delhi is free to express his opinion. But things are different under the current administration. This is a different era. In this new India every sector is given equal importance.
How did the India-India debate begin?
In fact, in the past, President Draupadi Murmu addressed the G20 Summit (G20 Summit 2023) had given an invitation to the guests who had come to Delhi for a dinner party. In this invitation card itself, ‘President of India’ was written for the first time. After which a debate started on this subject and the political atmosphere in the country got heated. The opposition has accused the government of changing the name of the country. The opposition says that they have named their alliance ‘INDIA’, due to which the government has done this. Whereas, the government has made it clear that the name of the country is not being changed. Both ‘INDIA and BHARAT’ are mentioned in the constitution.
