Azamgarh has been a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party for a long time, so it was a well-known decision of the BJP to pay more attention there. At the time of Lok Sabha elections in 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had reached Azamgarh to address the public.
The geographical position of Azamgarh is such that no party would like to leave it, the area border of Azamgarh is surrounded by Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Ambedkar Nagar and Sultanpur. This area is associated with the ideology of the Samajwadi Party since the time of Ram Manohar Lohia, 45 percent of the population in this area is Yadav-Muslim and 24 percent are upper castes. Apart from this, there is 30 percent Dalit community, due to this caste equation, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samajwadi Party have been ruling here for years.
