Congress leader Manish Tewari has once again targeted the central government. Manish Tewari outlawed the Centre’s law which has given the green signal to extend the tenure of the chief of CBI and Enforcement Directorate. Tiwari says that this is not only contradictory but also illegal.
They say this contradicts the Supreme Court’s 1998 Jain Hawala case verdict. In which the court has declared the tenure of CBI and ED director as 2 years. Which the central government could not compel both the agencies to do any wrong.
Not only this, he accused the central government and said that this ordinance is actually a direct instruction to the officers of these two agencies that the center has appointed you, so long as you keep working for us and according to us and screws on the opposition. Will keep doing Till then your tenure will continue to increase, in such a situation, Manish Tewari has appealed to all the parties to oppose this ordinance.
Let us tell you that the government has brought an ordinance to increase the tenure of the heads of CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) from 2 years to 5 years. At present, the tenure of the heads of both the agencies is only for 2 years. There is a provision in this ordinance that after the end of the term of two years of the heads of both the agencies, it can be extended for three years.
Let us tell you that a bench headed by Justice N Rao had recently given a decision which said that the tenure of the chief can be extended only in a special presentation, this order extended the tenure of ED director SK Mishra. It is worth noting that his tenure as the director of ED is ending on November 17.
