According to Hindu religion, on this day Lord Shri Krishna had killed the demon named Narakasura. Since Narakasura had the boon of dying only through a woman, Lord Krishna did this with the help of his wife Satyabhama. Besides, there is also a tradition of worshiping Yamraj, the god of death, on this day. Doing this reduces the chances of all kinds of diseases, sufferings and untimely death.
Special measures for Chhoti Diwali
Some special works done on this day are especially beneficial, some of them are as follows
1. On Chhoti Diwali, 14 earthen lamps should be lit in the name of Yamraj, these should be kept outside the house and in the courtyard.
2. To achieve success, it is good to decorate lamps everywhere in the name of Yama, wishing for success.
3. On this day, Kheel and Batash are used in the puja. After the puja, this Prasad should be distributed among everyone.
4. After worshiping, you can meditate on Yamraj and wish him for a happy future.
