Chennai. AIADMK has officially broken ties with BJP and NDA. The party will contest the next Lok Sabha and Assembly elections alone. Party leaders have also passed a resolution in this regard in a meeting held on Monday. Party’s deputy coordinator KP Munusamy said that AIADMK is breaking all relations with BJP and NDA from today. BJP people have been making statements against party leaders, especially General Secretary E Palanisamy, for the last one year.
AIADMK spokesperson Shasirekha said- We brought this proposal based on the opinion of the members. This is a moment of joy for AIADMK. We will fight the upcoming Lok Sabha or Assembly elections on our own. On September 18, AIADMK leader D Jayakumar had said – Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai makes statements against our party’s former chief ministers CN Annadurai and Jayalalitha. Our workers will not tolerate this at all.
4 reasons for bitterness between BJP-AIADMK…
BJP state president’s statement on Jayalalitha
Bitterness between AIADMK and BJP started in June this year itself. BJP state president Annamalai had said in an interview that Tamil Nadu is one of the most corrupt states, where even the former Chief Minister was held guilty. He was referring to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha. He was convicted in the disproportionate assets case. Although Jayalalitha was an accused in this case, she died before the Supreme Court’s decision. His associate Sasikala and others were found guilty in this case.
Palaniswami had said- no need to meet Shah
Since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the AIADMK in alliance with the BJP has lost three elections in the state. Sources claim that AIADMK has now started considering BJP as a burden. In November last year, Palaniswami had said that he did not need to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Shah had reached Tamil Nadu on a personal visit.
On the other hand, State BJP President K Annamalai had said that by joining people from BJP to AIADMK, it seems that we are growing in Tamil Nadu.
Leaders of both parties joining each other
Five BJP leaders had joined AIADMK in March. These include CRT Nirmal Kumar, head of the party’s state IT wing. Nirmal Kumar has accused state BJP president K Annamalai of having nexus with a DMK minister. Apart from Nirmal, 13 more leaders also joined AIADMK.
Earlier, senior AIADMK leader and former minister Nainar Nagendran had left the party and joined BJP and is currently the leader of the party in the Assembly. On this, AIADMK said- When our cadres join BJP, they thump their chest and when their party cadres join us, they start shouting.
BJP is projecting itself as the main opposition
BJP has only 4 MLAs in Tamil Nadu Assembly. According to a report, when the dispute between E Palanisamy and O Panneerselvam in AIADMK deepened, BJP started projecting itself as the main opposition party in the state. After this, differences started between the two allies.
Tamil Nadu is the fourth state after Bihar, Maharashtra and Punjab, where BJP allies have separated from the party. Earlier, Nitish Kumar’s JDU from Bihar, Shiv Sena Uddhav faction from Maharashtra, Shiromani Akali Dal from Punjab have separated from NDA.
Now Deve Gowda’s party also a part of NDA: JDS will contest Lok Sabha elections with BJP, given 4 seats in Karnataka
The BJP-led NDA has got the support of Janata Dal Secular (JDS) for the Lok Sabha elections next year. Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader BS Yediyurappa said on September 8 that JDS will contest the Lok Sabha elections along with BJP. He told that Home Minister has agreed to give 4 Lok Sabha seats to Amit Shah (JDS). However, earlier JDS was demanding five out of 28 seats in Karnataka.
