New Delhi (HS). If a patient suffering from cardiac arrest gets proper first aid on time before reaching the hospital, his life can be saved. In view of this, a nationwide public awareness campaign has been started from Wednesday to make people understand the important technique of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya along with Ministers of State Professor SP Singh Baghel and Dr. Bharti Praveen Pawar participated in the awareness program organized this morning in the Health Ministry. The Health Ministry will train 10 lakh people simultaneously today. In this campaign started under the aegis of National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), people will be given training in CPR technique. What is CPR technique: CPR is a procedure used in emergency situations which is used when a person’s heartbeat or breathing stops. In CPR, breaths are given to the unconscious person, which provides oxygen to the lungs and the chest is pressed until breathing returns or the heartbeat becomes normal, due to which the oxygenated blood already present in the body continues to circulate. CPR may be required in situations such as heart attack, cardiac arrest, drowning, suffocation and electrocution.
If the person’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped, CPR should be given to him as soon as possible. If this is not done then without sufficient oxygen the body cells start dying very soon. Brain cells begin to die within minutes, which can cause serious damage or even death.
