Why did Socrates get the death penalty even though he was innocent? (Why did Socrates get the death penalty even though he was innocent?)
Plato said to his master, “Greek society does not deserve your high-class views, so you run away from here. We have come to pick you up.
Socrates could have easily run away if he wanted, but his answer was that “If I run away, my body will survive, but my thoughts will die.
Born in 469 BC, Socrates was a Greek philosopher. His role in the development of Western philosophy has been very important.
He attacked the archaic stereotypes. According to him ‘If there is a God, then he can only be one.’ His words had merit and his words were logical.
Socrates did not write any texts. Like the Sufis, he gave basic education. Early in the morning, he used to leave the house and gather young men and women and exhort them to be honest, truthful and determined.
Young men and women were crazy about his words. He listened to them very carefully.
Greek society was afraid that Socrates would break all the old traditions. Some influential people were also involved in this. They all united against Socrates. And he was tried on false charges of spoiling the youth, blaspheming God. And given the punishment of ‘killing by poison’, he was locked in the cell.
His favorite disciple Plato, along with his other companions, planned to escape Socrates from prison. By bribing the judge and the jailer, he reached inside Socrates’ cell.

And if I die, my thoughts will live on. And I would prefer my thoughts to be alive in either of these.”
He picked up the cup himself and drank the poison.
And true his ideas were carried forward by his disciple Plato and then by Aristotle. Today he is known worldwide.
