With difficulty Uma returned to BJP
In 2012, just before the UP assembly elections, Uma Bharti returned to the BJP. Earlier in 2003, under the leadership of Uma, the BJP ended the rule of Digvijay Singh in MP. Uma became the Chief Minister, but she had to leave the post after a few months. After this first Babulal Gaur and then Shivraj Singh Chouhan became the Chief Minister. Eager to regain the chief minister’s post, Uma turned rebellious and her relations with Shivraj soured. In the year 2008, she contested in the assembly elections of MP by forming the Lok Janshakti Party. After not getting much success in the elections, she was trying to return to BJP, but the opponents were obstructing it. After a lot of struggle, the then BJP national president Nitin Gadkari got him back in the party in 2012 and made him a candidate from Charkhari.
Uma reluctantly agreed to contest the elections
Charkhari is a small town situated on the border of UP and MP. Uma was taken back into the party on the condition that she would not interfere in the politics of Madhya Pradesh. Uma reluctantly agreed to accept this condition. However, when he filed his nomination, it was decided that Shivraj would go to Charkhari for his campaign. As soon as this announcement was made, people started eagerly waiting for that moment because before this Uma was making statements against Shivraj on every occasion. On the other hand, Shivraj also looked at him with suspicion.
Shivraj reached for campaigning on the last day
However, it was decided that Shivraj would go to Charkhari on the last day of the election campaign. His meeting was held at Belatal village of Charkhari at four in the evening. A crowd of thousands had already gathered in the small ground. Here, the hands of the clock had increased above half past four, but there was no trace of Shivraj anywhere. Uma had finished her speech. After this, she had gone on stage two-three times and told the people that Shivraj was going to reach in a short while.
When Shivraj arrived, Uma did not even see
As the last hour of the election campaign was approaching, Uma’s face was clearly showing irritation and anger. Here, the patience of the people waiting was also starting to weaken. Then suddenly the sound of sirens of vehicles echoed and Shivraj reached the stage in the style of running amidst the noise of the crowd. Uma was also present there, but she was not even looking at Shivraj. She sat facing the other side. Shivraj reached the four corners of the stage and greeted people by shaking hands, but Uma still did not get up.
Shivraj made Uma wear his garland
Seeing Uma’s gesture, it seemed that she was not happy with the delay in Shivraj’s arrival. There was also a doubt that the bitterness of the relationship between the two might come to the fore on the stage itself. Then some workers present on the stage moved towards Shivraj and started trying to garland him. Meanwhile, Uma also got up from her chair and came near Shivraj. Shivraj hurriedly took the garland from the hands of the workers and put it around Uma’s neck. All this happened so suddenly that even people were surprised to see. No one had any idea that two old enemies would suddenly unite like this. Shivraj had melted the arrogant Uma Bharti with his gentle behaviour. Meanwhile, he placed his hand on Uma’s head – in a gesture of blessing. However, Shivraj calls Uma Didi before and after this as well. Seeing this behavior of his, the crowd started clapping.
Uma told Shivraj elder brother
After this Shivraj handled the mike and started his speech with the slogan of Bharat Mata Ki Jai. He had just started speaking that Uma came in between. He pulled the mike towards him and started speaking. He said that Shivraj put his hand on my head. He is older than me and is my elder brother. He has blessed me. Now nothing can stop me from winning.
enmity turned into friendship
Really no one could stop Uma’s victory. She won the election comfortably, but her meeting with Shivraj is still etched in people’s memory. How two enemies became friends in one fell swoop and how Uma Bharti, who was sitting with puffed mouth, melted in front of the greatness of Shivraj, is discussed even today.
