On this day in 1971, India defeated Pakistan. Today it has been 50 years since this victory. The victory of 1971 in India is celebrated as Vijay Diwas. Apart from this, another country Bangladesh was born on the world map. This is the day when Indian soldiers brought 93 thousand soldiers of Pakistan to their knees with their valor and courage and played a major role in making ‘Bangladesh’ by breaking Pakistan into two pieces.
This war started when the movement for independence was going on in East Pakistan for many years, to suppress which common Bengalis were being tortured fiercely by Pakistani soldiers.
During this, India also supported this movement, angered by this, Pakistan attacked 11 Indian Air Force stations on December 3, 1971. After that, India badly defeated Pakistan under the leadership of the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi.
This war was historic for India and Pakistan had to face a humiliating defeat. Therefore, to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan, 16 December is celebrated as ‘Victory Day’ across the country. After the end of this war 93,000 Pakistani army surrendered.
