Imphal(EMS). After 18 days, there has been violence in Manipur once again. In the New Lambulen area of the capital Imphal, miscreants set ablaze some vacant houses. In view of the violence, the government has deployed army in the area. Apart from this, the administration has imposed curfew in these areas. Along with this, internet has been banned till 26th May.
According to the police, a dispute broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities over a place in a local market. After this the dispute took the form of violence. The miscreants set fire to some houses. After this, Para Military Force and Army were called to control the situation. Due to the violence, more than 10,000 people have been displaced so far.
- Violence continues since May 3
In Manipur, violence broke out on May 3 from Torbang area of Churachandpur district. On this day, the All Tribal Students Union had called a tribal solidarity march. Ahead of Chief Minister N Viren Singh’s program in Churchandpur on May 4, protesters vandalized and torched his stage. This was followed by violent clashes in more than 10 districts of the state. - 71 deaths so far in violence
So far 71 people have died in violent incidents. More than 230 people were injured and 1700 houses were burnt. The internet has been closed here since the violence. Curfew is being relaxed from time to time.
