Uttarakhand News: Badrinath Highway closed again after 22 hours, vehicles stuck, pilgrims in trouble

Chamoli: Barely four hours after the Lambagad drain, which had been closed for the last 22 hours, opened on Saturday, the water has started spewing again. Lambagad drain has once again closed the Badrinath Highway. Pilgrims going on the pilgrimage to Badrinath Dham are facing a lot of problems due to the frequent opening and closure of the highway. Pilgrims wait for the highways to open at Pandukeshwar and Govindghat.

Khachra Nala and Lambagad Nala on Badrinath Highway are creating frequent disturbances in the smooth pilgrimage of Badrinath Dham. Badrinath Highway was washed away up to 12 meters due to heavy surge in Lambagad Nala and Khachda Nala. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) personnel made continuous efforts to start vehicular movement after filling stones at Lambagad Gaddera at around 12 noon on Saturday.

After this, about 1200 pilgrims reached Badrinath Dham, about 600 pilgrims left for their destination. But on Saturday evening, the movement of vehicles came to a halt again due to the rise of Lambagad drain. Where BRO machines had filled stones on the highway, the traffic came to a halt due to re-filling of water. BRO Commander Col Manish Kapil said that due to heavy rains it is becoming difficult to maintain the highway smooth. The highway was restored but after it rained again, the Lambagad drain has come in spate.

A huge boulder fell in Malli Bazar due to landslide at Eladhar of Dharchula in Pithoragarh. Due to this, a two-storey house of 12 rooms and shops of businessman OP Verma was completely destroyed. There was chaos in the entire market after the boulder fell on the house. Some other houses are also expected to be demolished by boulders and rubble. The two storey house was completely demolished.

In Dharchula, landslide debris from the forest in the upper area of ​​Tadkot and Malli Bazar filled the road and rocks started falling from the hill. Due to this the road was completely closed in no time. According to the local people, due to the falling debris in the river, Ramganga has turned into a 30 feet deep 700 meter long lake.
