Uttarakhand Covid News: Administration’s U-turn on New Year’s celebration in Mussoorie, Dehradun, the decision to ban was withdrawn

In view of the Omicron variants of the corona virus in Dehradun and Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, the restrictions imposed on the celebration of the new year have been withdrawn after a day. The Uttarakhand authority says that they will implement only Covid appropriate behavior. He said that the decision has been taken following the guidelines of the Central Government. Significantly, on Saturday itself, the administration had banned the participation of more than 100 people in the New Year celebrations.

Guidelines were issued on Saturday, according to which the New Year party was allowed only till 10 pm. For the time being, the administration has removed it as well. Incidentally, other states such as Delhi and Haryana have banned New Year celebrations in view of the Omicron threat, while Uttar Pradesh has started imposing night curfew which has also been implemented in Delhi.

Officials in Uttarakhand say they will only enforce COVID appropriate behaviour. He said that this decision has been taken under the guidelines of the Central Government. Dehradun DM R Rajesh Kumar said, ‘It is clearly written in our order that we will follow the guidelines of the Center and hence all restrictions regarding crowd and party timings have been removed on the new year.’

The DM further said that it will be necessary for people to wear masks throughout, as well as hoteliers will have to follow social distancing properly and the organizers will be responsible for any kind of lapse.

‘Good decision for tourism industry’
Welcoming the decision, hoteliers in Mussoorie said that it is a good decision for the tourism industry and they are ready to follow all COVID protocols. However, the fresh order has not reached them yet.

Sandeep Sahni of Uttarakhand Hotel Association said, “We are yet to know about the new guidelines issued by the administration.” On the other hand, the next day of Christmas in Mussoorie, there was a throng of tourists on Sunday.
