Union Minister Murugan targets DMK

Chennai, December 26 (PTI) Union Minister L. Taking a jibe at the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the state government led by it, Murugan on Sunday said the incidents of alleged attacks and arrests on those criticizing the ruling party and the regime pose a “big challenge” to freedom of expression and the Constitution. Huh.

Asked about the Nam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) workers being ‘attacked’ by DMK office-bearers in Dharmapuri a few days ago, Murugan alleged that the ruling party in Tamil Nadu continues to commit such acts. .

Murugan told reporters, “People should be surprised when DMK people do not indulge in such attacks.” If office-bearers of opposition parties make critical comments on the party or the government, they are targeted through attacks and arrests.

The former Tamil Nadu unit chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said such incidents posed a “big challenge” to the freedom of expression and the Constitution in the state.

On a question related to the 68 Tamil Nadu fishermen who were recently arrested by Sri Lanka, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Information and Broadcasting, Murugan said all steps were being taken for their early release.

Recently, NTK workers were allegedly attacked by DMK workers for criticizing the party and the government for their demand for the premature release of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

Leader of the Opposition and top All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader K. Palaniswami was among the leaders who condemned the ‘attack’ and demanded strict action against those responsible for it.

A few days back, YouTuber M. Maridas (who was arrested on the basis of two separate complaints) was released from jail by the Madras High Court. The court had quashed two FIRs registered against him.

The BJP and pro-Hindutva groups praise Maridas as a nationalist. The BJP had questioned the motive of the DMK government for his arrest.

NTK office-bearer and YouTuber ‘Sattai’ Durai Murugan was also congratulated by Chief Minister M.K. He was arrested in the past for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Stalin. A few days back he was again arrested in a case.
