Dainik Bhaskar Bureau,
New Delhi. There was a wave of joy when all the 41 construction workers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel were successfully rescued. Pictures of the rescued workers cheering and clapping after being pulled out of the tunnel enthralled the nation.
Although it was one of the toughest rescue operations that lasted 17 days, the workers trapped inside the tunnel survived on supplied oxygen and a healthy diet of nuts, puffed rice and chickpeas. After being removed from the tunnel, the workers gave the almonds to rescue workers who were experts in rat-hole mining techniques.
When stuck in such unprecedented circumstances, only a few things can help one survive – determination and a nutritious diet to keep the body running. And almonds played an important role in maintaining the nutritional value of the workers while they were trapped in the tunnel.
Almonds are rich in 15 essential nutrients, which include vitamin E, protein, riboflavin, zinc, magnesium etc. The protein present in almonds not only provides energy but also helps in muscle growth and maintenance. The best thing about almonds is that they can be eaten in any form and at any time of the day to maximize its nutritional benefits.
Almonds also contain riboflavin, which contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism. These nuts are rich in vitamin B2 and phosphorus, which provide essential nutrients known for their role in releasing energy from food. Considering these nutritional elements together, almonds stand out as a healthy source of energy to help keep us active.
