Kolkata Police has been in action ever since Alapan Bandyopadhyay, former chief secretary of West Bengal and chief advisor to Mamata Banerjee, received death threats. Taking action in the matter, the police arrested three people including a doctor. Giving information on Tuesday, a senior official said that three people have been arrested in the case and interrogation of the accused is going on. Let us inform that Bandyopadhyay had recently received death threats through a letter sent to his wife.
Arrest made on the basis of secret information
Acting on a tip-off, a typist was arrested from Ballygunge area on Monday, who confessed that he had written the threatening letter using a typewriter, the official said. Raja Rammohan Sarani, a doctor working in a medical college in the city, and his driver have been arrested from Maniktala area after receiving information from him, he said. Let us inform that last month, Sonali Chakraborty, wife of Alapan Bandyopadhyay, received a threatening letter, in which her husband was threatened with death. It was written in the letter – Madam, your husband will be killed. No one can save your husband’s life. Sonali Chakraborty, wife of Alapan Bandyopadhyay, is the vice-chancellor of a college.

Police engaged in investigation of the case
Giving information about the matter, the police officer said that he has written such letters to many people. It looks like he has a mental disorder. We are probing the matter. Let us inform that Bandyopadhyay, who retired in May, is presently Chief Advisor to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He is also a 1987 batch IAS officer of Alapan Bandyopadhyay Bengal cadre. During interrogation, the doctor told that he used to send letters expressing displeasure in many cases.
