During the lunch break, we had a chance to talk to Mustafa Lota, a 25-year-old bright young man who was busy all day. However, even during this time he kept getting calls for orders for cots. Can’t believe that this young man, who is selling 800 to 900 designer cots in the country and abroad, is only tenth pass. The cot made by him is being liked not only in India but also abroad.
Surprisingly, Mustafa did not take any training before starting this business. He learned this skill only by watching his father. The Better India Talking to ANI, he said, “My father used to help people in the village to weave cots. While living with him, I also got this job.”
Today, by using his same skills, he is working to save our cultural heritage along with earning profit.
There was a time when a cot was seen lying in the courtyard of every house. From time to time it was weaved with rope. The members of the family used to work together to weave cots. But today, along with the cities, the cot is hardly visible anywhere in the villages. Today people buy outdoor furniture for the garden or patio of the house. So, Mustafa started this business with the idea of taking the cot back to every home. Today, he is selling 800 to 900 cots annually.
Farming stopped, so started the work of making cots
Mustafa is originally from Balamba, a small village in Jamnagar. His father used to do agriculture. But it was difficult to sustain the family only by farming, that is why he had to leave his studies after 10th. Since his farm was in the low-lying area of the village, his cultivation also suffered during rains.
In the year 2012, his entire family settled in Rajkot in search of employment. But what business to do without capital in a big city? This was also a great question.

He says, “My father used to do the work of weaving cots for the people in the village during that time when the income from farming was decreasing. Although initially we did not expect much from this employment. But today my four brothers and I together are making good profit from it.”
In the year 2012, he started the business of making cots named ‘India Fabrication’ with the help of father Shabirbhai Haroonbhai Lota. Gradually the whole family got involved in this business.
From simple cots to rajwadi designs
Father and sons started experimenting together. Today, he manufactures various types of cots according to the demand of the customers, including Rajwadi, Kutchi designs. He says that it takes only three hours to make a simple cot. At the same time, it takes two to three days to make a carpet design. Speaking of materials, they use galvanized, steel and wood.
He says, “Due to the color of the powder coating on the frame, these cots are quite durable. For weaving thread or rope, he uses a woven string of silk. These cords do not get damaged even in the sun and rain. With proper maintenance, this cot lasts comfortably for about 10 to 15 years. At the same time, if we talk about their price, then at present they are being sold in the market in the range of 2,800 to 40,000.

At the same time, he also claims that if someone has back pain and uses this cot, he will definitely get some relief. Presently Mustafa, Rajwadi is selling cots, machia, steel, iron and wooden cots.
