Please tell that the eight-month-old child of the couple living in Ahmedabad had a complaint of Crigler-Najjar syndrome. The disease was detected two months back. The elder son of the couple has died of the same disease. The victim child had jaundice, diarrhoea, vomiting and high fever. Liver transplant was the only option left to save the child’s life. On the advice of doctors, the couple had come to Mumbai for liver transplant. The child’s mother donated a part of her liver.

Dr. Gaurav Chaubal of the hospital’s Liver, Pancreas and Intestines told that a small incision is made through Total Robotic Donor Hepatectomy surgery. Bleeding can be reduced in this new surgery. It has a lower complication rate than open hepatectomy. The risk of infection is also less and recovery is also faster. This surgery has been done for the first time in western India on an 8 month old baby.
Abdul Kader Jufna, the child’s father, told that our first child has already been a victim of this rare genetic condition. Doctors advised us for liver transplant.
