Chautala took care of Tau’s legacy
Before getting into the bottom of the controversy, let us know a little history of the Chautala family. The family of Chaudhary Devi Lal, who belongs to Chautala village of Sirsa district, once dominated the politics of Haryana. Born on 25 September 1914, Chaudhary Devi Lal is still remembered by the people of Haryana by the name of Tau. Devi Lal also participated in the freedom struggle. He used to participate in protests along with Lala Lajpat Rai. The country became independent and for the first time in 1952, Devi Lal became an MLA on a Congress ticket. During the Emergency, Devi Lal joined the Janata Party and had a strong political presence till Delhi. In the last years of the 80s, he also became the kingmaker in the politics of the country. In the National Front government of VP Singh, he was the Deputy Prime Minister of the country from 19 October 1989 to 21 June 1991. He was also the Chief Minister of Haryana twice from 1977 to 1979 and from 1987 to 1989. Taking forward the legacy of Devi Lal, Omprakash Chautala also reached the chair of CM of Haryana thrice. Chautala also served 10 years in jail in Haryana’s Junior Basic Training teachers recruitment scam.

This is how Dushyant-Digvijay’s rift started with Abhay Chautala
Omprakash Chautala has two sons – Ajay Singh Chautala is elder and Abhay Singh Chautala is younger. Ajay Chautala is married to Naina Chautala and they have two sons – Dushyant Chautala and Digvijay Chautala. At the same time, Abhay Chautala also has two sons. One’s name is Karan and the other’s name is Arjun. Now coming to the Mahabharata of the Chautala family. When Omprakash Chautala and Ajay Chautala were in jail in the teacher recruitment scam, Abhay Chautala became the second power center in the party. He was involved in most of the decisions related to the party. At the same time, along with Ajay, Dushyant and Digvijay Chautala were getting weaker in the party. On 2 November 2018, Omprakash Chautala expelled Ajay Chautala’s sons Dushyant and Digvijay from the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). Exactly 12 days after this i.e. on 14 November 2018, the membership of Ajay Chautala’s party was also cancelled. Omprakash Chautala’s letter written from jail was read to the media. Ajay’s younger brother Abhay Chautala was present while announcing the verdict. In this letter, there was an order to cancel the membership of Ajay Chautala from INLD.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Parole: ‘I will not interfere…’ Why did Khattar say this on Ram Rahim’s parole?
Gohana rally decided the split of INLD
In fact, the ground for expelling Ajay Chautala’s family from the party was ready on October 7, 2018 itself. Omprakash Chautala was also present in this INLD rally at Gohana in Sonipat. He came out on parole for two weeks. Meanwhile, some people in the crowd started raising slogans against Abhay Chautala. When Dushyant came to Jind on 22 October 2018, a large crowd was in his support. After this Omprakash Chautala showed Dushyant and Digvijay the way out of the party. Not only this, the youth wing of INLD, which was headed by Digvijay Chautala, was also disbanded. Dushyant and Digvijay rejected this decision and started mobilizing public support all over Haryana. In different meetings, they started asking questions that which discipline of the party was broken on their part? Amidst all this, Abhay Chautala kept clarifying that there is no conflict with the nephews and both are his children.

Jannayak Janata Party was born in Jind
On 17 November 2018, Ajay Chautala called a big rally in Jind amid the ruckus in INLD. Anger was raised against Abhay Chautala from the stage of this rally as well. With this development, the breakup of INLD was sealed. On 9 December 2018, Dushyant Chautala announced a new party in the name of Jannayak Janata Party from Jind itself. During this, Dushyant said that the party is being named Jannayak after Devi Lal, because supporters in Haryana used to call him by the name of Jannayak. JJP announced to take forward the ideology and politics of the party based on the principles of Devi Lal.

Dushyant became kingmaker like Tau in 2019 elections
This was a major development ahead of the 2019 assembly elections in Haryana. INLD won 18 of the 90 seats in Haryana with 24 percent of the vote in the 2014 assembly elections. But in the 2019 elections, JJP became the biggest challenge in front of INLD, the party that came out of the family. In this election JJP completely captured the vote share of INLD. JJP contested on 87 seats. It won 10 seats with 15.32 percent votes. Whereas INLD could get only one seat and 2.71 per cent votes. These results made Dushyant Chautala a people’s leader in the politics of Haryana like the name of his party. With 40 seats in the assembly, the BJP also fell short of a majority. In this situation, Dushyant Chautala became the kingmaker. With the support of JJP, BJP formed the government in Haryana. Dushyant Chautala took oath as Deputy CM on 25 October 2019. With the split in INLD, the distance between Ajay and Abhay Chautala’s family kept on increasing. The result of this has also been seen in Digvijay’s engagement. His grandfather Omprakash Chautala and uncle Abhay Chautala did not even register their presence at the engagement ceremony.
