Promising Birwan Ke Hot Chikne Paat – This sentence might have been said only for children like Neel Shah of Vadodara. Neil’s father Pradyuman Shah, who retired from the Fisheries Department, may have studied only till the seventh standard, but today he is making every effort to educate his son. Most of the children complain of lack of understanding of maths and science subjects, while Neil has made it his friend. Not only bookish knowledge, but he is also aware of its practical use.
Neil, a class XII student who is fond of reading books, has recently designed a solar cycle with the help of his teacher. There is no cost to operate this cycle which works like an e-scooter. Its battery is charged by taking energy from the solar panel installed in the bicycle, due to which there is no harm to the environment.
The Better India Talking to ANI, 18-year-old Neil explains, “The charging of any normal e-scooter uses electricity, which is made by emitting carbon. But this bicycle of mine is charged through sunlight and pedals. It does not cost money and does not emit any kind of carbon.
Interested in science since childhood
Neil was very much interested in science since he was in fourth-fifth grade. However, at that time this subject was not even taught in his class. Talking about this Neil says, “I had read a book called Creator in the school library in my childhood. Models of different sciences were made in that book. Since then I have been curious to know how all these things are made? Later, when the subject of science was taught in school, I felt good that science is behind all these inventions.
In the school’s ‘Best Out of Waste’ competition, where other children made a house or pen stand and brought it. At the same time, Neil, a student of class VII, made a helicopter by using a waste plastic bottle, cardboard and a small motor. That helicopter could even fly up to a foot. After this, he prepared many innovative projects including telescope, ATM, processing printer and robot by reading books.
Solar cycle made in a month

Neil considers class X Physics teacher Santosh Kaushik as his mentor. For the last three years, Santosh sir has helped Neil in making many projects. Santosh Kaushik says, “Neil always used to bring physics books from the library and asked about its concepts. Although all those books were out of his syllabus. This year I gave him the concept of making a bicycle powered by solar panels. I was very surprised that he even got it ready in just a month.
Neil started working on three aspects before creating the cycle. First, the model of the scooter, second – battery work and third – solar panel information. Neil’s father had bought a cycle from a scrap dealer for just Rs.300. Neil converted it into a solar cycle by spending only 12 thousand rupees.
With the help of solar panels mounted on the bicycle, its battery is charged and it starts working like a scooter. While the dynamo attached to the tire helps it charge even without solar lights. That is, if the cycle is to be charged during the night time, then this dynamo can charge it.
He told, “I have installed a 10-watt solar plate in this solar cycle, so that the cycle can travel 10 to 15 km comfortably.”

The goal is to become a physics scientist
Neil has also started getting orders to make many more such cycles. On which he will work after the 12th board examinations. Presently, he is concentrating on his 12th studies. He studies without tuition from class 10th. Not only this, he also teaches science to his friends.
Neil, who considers Jagdish Chandra Bose and Satendranath Bose as his role models, wants to become a physics scientist in the future.
At this stage of age, when most of the children are in dilemma about their future and career, Neil has set his goal, then he will do many big inventions by studying BSc Physics, MSc Physics and then PhD Physics. want.
About his solar cycle project, he says, “All my friends used to learn to ride bikes and scooters. But I had decided that I would rather ride my own bike, not made by any other brand.
