Nashik: A group of bandh supporters allegedly pelted stones at some shops and police in Malegaon town of Maharashtra’s Nashik district on Friday evening, creating tension. There was also news of forced closure of shops in Nanded, Maharashtra. After which violent clashes broke out between the police and the bandh supporters. There was also news of stone pelting on the police, after which the atmosphere became tense. Now the police have cordoned off the area and started investigation into the matter. There is an atmosphere of tension in Shivaji Nagar area after the violence.
Forcibly closed shops
According to media reports, this demonstration was being held in protest against the Tripura incident. Earlier the demonstration was going on peacefully but later the demonstration took a violent form and the matter reached to stone pelting. The supporters started forcibly closing the shops of the people. Stones were also thrown on the roads in large numbers and there was a scuffle with the police. Efforts are on to put the matter to rest for now. In retaliation, the police resorted to mild lathi charge. At present, the situation is under control. Deputy Inspector General of Police BG Shekhar Patil said that the situation in Malegaon is under control.

Ruckus in Maharashtra over Tripura violence
SP Sachin Patil said the protesters pelted stones at a building which has shops in the basement and a hospital on the first and second floors. We have deployed enough policemen in the town. We will appeal to people not to pay heed to rumours. Significantly, this demonstration took place in Maharashtra in connection with the Tripura violence that took place in the past weeks. There was communal violence on a large scale in Tripura. The direct impact of Tripura violence was also seen in Bangladesh where Muslim organizations allege that they are being threatened and attacked there.
