New Delhi. General elections are going to be held in the neighboring country Pakistan on 8 February. The people of Pakistan, with a population of 24 crores, will elect the leader of their country through voting for the fourth time. But, before this the country has to face situations like economic crisis and public anger. It is noteworthy that despite 76 years of independence, at present not a single Prime Minister of Pakistan has failed to complete his five-year term.
In the democracy of Muslim majority country, there has been military rule for most of the time. So that dominance can be maintained in a situation like restoration of democracy. There was a period of military rule in Pakistan from 1956 to 1971, 1977 to 1998, and 1999 to 2008. Like these years, military rule will remain in force in this general election in Pakistan.
How different is this election?
The elections of 2024 in Pakistan are in discussion for two main reasons. The first reason is the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in jail. So the second reason is the entry of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from self-exile into his country Pakistan, who is going to try his luck in the election field in the race to become the Prime Minister for the fourth time. Let us tell you that before the elections, Nawaz Sharif was acquitted of all criminal cases.
There are total 342 seats in the lower house.
Talking about the Parliament in Pakistan, there are a total of 342 seats in the National Assembly, the lower house there. Out of which 272 MPs from four states of the country are elected from these seats. Out of the remaining 70 seats, 60 seats have been reserved for women. So, 10 seats belong to religious minorities. The names of these four provinces of Pakistan are Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khair Pakhtunkhwa. Which is also known as the gateway to Pakistani power. The special reason for saying this is that these provinces have 141 seats in the National Assembly, which is much more than others.
Rift in Imran's party!
In the 2018 general elections, former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party had won 67 seats in four provinces. After this, he came to power from the country's capital Islamabad. On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif's party PML-N had won a total of 64 seats in the 2018 elections. But the situation this time is quite different from the previous situation.
At present, the Imran-led Peeta Party in Pakistan is going through difficult times. In fact, in the 2024 elections, some leaders from his own party have rebelled and contested as independent candidates. Apart from this, other leaders of the party are imprisoned in jail. Taking advantage of this, leaders of Nawaz Sharif's party are seen contesting the elections. Whereas, Nawaz Sharif will contest from Lahore National Assembly seat-130. This is the reason why PML-N appears to have the upper hand.
Regarding the Punjab province of Pakistan, it is said that whichever party has more influence here. She takes over the power of the country. At the same time, the influence of Bilawal Bhutto's PPP party is very less in Punjab. In such a situation, she is contesting elections from only one seat in Punjab.
Situation in other provinces of Pakistan
Sindh is the second most important province from the point of view of victory in elections. There are total 61 seats here. This province, which is called the stronghold of PPP, is ruled by it. However, PML-N party is also trying to strengthen its ground here. She is contesting the elections here in alliance with Muttahida Qaumi Movement. Apart from this, if we talk about Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, there are 45 seats here and 16 seats in Balochistan.
