Panchayat elections will not be held in Madhya Pradesh (MP Panchayat Election Postponed). The State Election Commission on Tuesday withdrew the notification issued for the Panchayat elections. Secretary of the Commission BS Jamod said that the entire process of Panchayat elections has been canceled.
On December 17, the Supreme Court had ordered the State Election Commission to declare the reserved seats for OBCs as normal and conduct elections. Since then, there were speculations that the election would be postponed. In the winter session of the Legislative Assembly, a resolution was passed not to hold elections without OBC reservation. The government had also indicated to postpone the elections by withdrawing the Panchayati Raj Amendment Ordinance. Home Minister Narottam Mishra had clearly said that the Panchayat elections should be postponed.
With the cancellation of the election, the commission has said that the security deposit of the applicants will be returned. The security deposit deposited by the candidates along with the nomination will be returned to them.
The commission has sent orders related to the decision to cancel the Panchayat elections to the collectors and election officials of all the districts. According to this, the situation before 21 November 2021 was restored in the state due to the withdrawal of the ordinance by the government. The delimitation on the basis of which the voter list was prepared by the commission has changed. After this it became necessary to change the voter list. With the withdrawal of the ordinance, the boundaries of Gram Panchayat, Ward, Janpad Panchayat and Zilla Panchayat also changed.
The location of constituencies and the position of reservation of seats also changed. The basis on which the commission had started the election process itself changed. In view of this, the commission canceled all the proceedings related to the election.
