Earlier in the day, Shiv Sena MLA and close aide of party chief Uddhav Thackeray, Rajan Salvi, on Saturday filed his nomination for the post of Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly as the candidate of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). First-time MLA, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rahul Narvekar filed his nomination for the post on Friday. The majority test of the new government will be held in the House on July 4.
Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress are part of the MVA alliance in the state. The government of these three parties fell on Wednesday due to Shinde’s rebellion. The very next day, Shinde was sworn in as the Chief Minister. BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis has become the Deputy Chief Minister. A group of rebel Shiv Sena MLAs and Independents led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had left for Mumbai from Goa in a special flight on Saturday evening.
The MLA, who was camping at a hotel in Dona Paula since June 29, had left for Dabolim airport in two buses led by Shinde. Amidst the political crisis in Maharashtra, the rebel MLAs had reached Goa from Guwahati with Shinde on June 29.
